ODT’s Most-Read Stories This Week—Jan. 29

People, products, and purchases drove ODT website traffic this past week, with both Hyalex Orthopaedics and CaP Biomaterials announcing personnel changes, and Bone Solutions and Smith+Nephew touting new (or expanded) products.

Carl Vause is the new chief executive of Hyalex Orthopaedics; he succeeds Interim President Michael Hawkins, Ph.D., who was named chief technology officer. Before his appointment as CEO, Vause was vice president of marketing at CONMED Orthopedic Solutions and CEO of Soft Robotics and global joint repair franchise leader at Smith+Nephew. Hawkins worked at Zimmer Holdings Inc. for 35 years, eventually becoming vice president of corporate research.

Staff changes also are underway at CaP Biomaterials LLC, where Jon Proxmire has been hired as R&D director. The Marquette University graduate brings to his position more than a decade of experience working with bone grafts, cement, and injectable medical device products. CaP Biomaterials announced Proxmire’s hiring in tandem with achieving ISO 13485:2016 certification.  

Website visitors also gravitated to news of Bone Solutions Inc.’s U.S. launch of an injectable bone void filler containing magnesium, Smith+Nephew’s expanded indication for its CORI handheld robotic-assisted solution (now including total hip arthroplasty), and Exactech’s purchase of a minority interest in JointMedica Limited, a U.K.-based orthopedic device designer and manufacturer.
